Work-At-Home Jobs

Tips to Make Money with a Work-At-Home Job!

  1. In most cases, if the job or situation wouldn’t hold up in the traditional work world, it probably won’t in the telecommuting world. So always think about your work-at-home job search the same way as you would a traditional job search.
  2. Legitimate jobs have a hiring processes. You can’t just “sign-up” and be hired.  A job (employment) requires a resume or an application.
  3.  If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Avoid any program that will “do the work for you” or gives grandiose income claims.
  4. Avoid any company that doesn’t have a street address (not P.O. Box) and phone number.
  5. Envelope stuffing, assembly work, processing email, processing payments ….stay away from them.it. I haven’t run into anyone yet who hasn’t lost money on these.
  6. Companies that list their jobs on their site should have a domain and paid hosting. A company that can’t afford webhosting, can’t afford to hire you, so try to avoid jobs posted on free sites. The company should also have an email on a paid account not Hotmail or Yahoo. You should do some research on companies that use AOL or other commercial accounts. Small businesses often have commercial accounts such as AOL and are big users of telecommuters, but you should always proceed with caution. Its better if the email is the same as their domain.
  7. NEVER SEND MONEY TO GET HIRED. This rule caused a lot of confusion and people use it wrong. When a company says “We’ll hire you when you send $29.95,” don’t do it! However, there are some legitimate work-at-home job databases and resources that do have a fee and its okay to pay for those. What’s the difference? Paying money to access a database of jobs is like buying a newspaper to read the “want ads”. Its a service you are buying. These services never guarantee you a job because they don’t know your skills. Instead they provide access to a list of jobs to which you can apply. But you can’t buy a job. Scam companies will say the fee is to cover their expenses, to see if you are serious, and so on. Don’t believe it. You wouldn’t pay for training or paper clips at your current job would you? (Remember rule 1?).
  8. If you are looking for a home-based job from your classified ads, 800 numbers should raise a red flag. Most local companies don’t use 800 numbers in local ads. If you decide to call, and it sounds like a “job” situation, get as much information as possible so you can research the company. And remember, never send money.
  9. A legitimate company will NEVER ask to use your bank account to help it do business. Never accept money and then send money from your personal bank account. People are losing everything to these scams so heed this warning!!
  10. Know your skills and experience and be prepared to present it professionally. Work-at-home jobs are like traditional jobs. You have to show you have the skills and are the best candidate for the job.
  11. Make sure your resume or application is specific to the job to which you are applying. The more you can show you skills and experience fit the job, the better chance you have of getting hired over some one with a generic one-size-fits-all resume.
  12. Do what the application tells you do to. Don’t get fancy or provide more (or less) than what is asked. The biggest complaint of employers is that applicants don’t follow directions.
